Common Questions
You changed from a 21 to 28 day cycle.
Why? How?
We added an extensive mosquito bait station program (traps) to extend our period of coverage. We also now visit your property twice a month, staggering granular and liquid treatments so the efficacy of the two products is always overlapping.
Can I choose a partial treatment?
Absolutely! If you want to treat a small part of a big property, that is no problem, select what tier suits your needs.
How do habitat modifications work?
Our habitat modifications focus on long-term prevention. We handle brush mowing, bat house installation (ask about our test pool!), gutter cleaning and fixing, culvert clearing, etc.
Are your treatments safe for pets?
Yes! These treatments are designed to be safe for people, pets, AND bees, stay out of off of the treated grass until it dries though. Every product that we use is listed on our "products used page." Please reach out to learn more.
What are your feelings on synthetic chemical pesticides.
Our feelings about them are worse than how we feel about ticks and mosquitos. We don't like them.
What are you doing to be environmentally friendly?
We said we are environmentally minded and that is a potentially very long answer. From not using synthetic chemical pesicides, overseeing with clover, not transporting heavy tanks of water in our trucks, offering promotions for participants of "no mow May," to developing closed mixing systems that help to eliminate spills, we have made it part of the company ethic. It's "baked in."
Why do you wear so much protective gear
Logically, it is because we handle these materials all day, every day, and we prefer to maintain a wide margin for occupational safety. Keep in mind that beyond the products themselves, the application machinery is a hazard on its own. Practically, if we do not, cedar oil gets everywhere and we taste it for the rest of the evening.
I can buy a kit and do it myself...?
Cool... Please select a minimum risk product, READ THE ENTIRE LABEL and follow the directions. We can help if it doesn't work out.
Can I Cancel?
Times are tough, yes. Please cancel online or notify us by phone, email, or text 24 hours before (or sooner than) your scheduled service visit and we will issue a refund. That being said, if you are able to catch us before we spray, we will try to issue a refund and hope to see you in the future!
How effective is your service?
Very! For events, we provide the ultimate level of protection without using synthetic chemical pesticides or damaging your vegetation. For subscribers, you will notice an immediate and significant decrease in tick and mosquito activity. Results will continue to improve as our traps and habitat modifications take full effect.
Does someone need a license to treat my property for ticks or mosquitos, even an "organic" one?
YES.
Also worth note, we are licensed and the appropriate term is "minimum risk," not organic... even if it is.
What if I choose a "bigger" plan than my property?
We study every property on topographic maps, satellite imagery, LiDAR maps etc. If we have an opportunity to drive by and take a look, we will. Bug Buddy will probably already know that an error has been made and will refund the excess and adjust your plan to the appropriately after your property's first treatment.
Mosquitos are pollinators, did you know that?
Yes, with all due flippancy, yes of course. But they suck, so who cares? Do a search of what animal kills the most humans.
Is it true only female mosquitos feed on blood?
Yes, male mosquitos don't have the right kind of mouthparts to feed on blood. Female mosquitos only feed on blood when they lay eggs. Most of the time they are vegetarians.
Do all mosquitos bite humans?
No. Luckily not all species feed on humans. Unluckily some species feed on humans AND reptiles or birds, this is one way mosquitos become a true health hazard.
Do you service restaurants and other businesses?
Yes. We always service commercial properties while your customers are not on the premises and your staff are not in the treated areas.
Should I close my windows?
That depends. We like to treat the eves of your building with our current cedar oil product of choice. If your windows are open, we won't do that. The windows on lower levels, not close to eves, are a matter of noise. Also worth note, we are actively trying not to make your windows dirty.
Can you service my commercial property over night?
Great question! Yes, for an up-charge, we gladly will take care of your issue under the cover of darkness! If requested we use the quietest equipment on the market (suitable for the job) and wear the uniform of your choice. Our default for this work is a non company branded stage crew look.
Why are you guys moving so fast?
Because of the weather, there is frequently a narrow window of time to get our work done. That, and we like to.
Who do you hire?
We typically recruit type 2 fun enthusiasts; thru-hikers, ski bums, rock climbers, runners etc.
